Roy Hodgson - An Unfortunate Spell at Liverpool

A recent managerial switch at globally supported Liverpool Football club led to an infamous mediocre season finally turning upward. The English Premier League club had previously been managed by Roy Hodgson, a football coach with a reputation many fans consider worse than what the club deserves. Starting his tenure with questionable player signings and several losses to other clubs regularly beaten by Liverpool, Hodgson's integrity was constantly questioned by supporters and staff alike. Supporters were awestruck as Liverpool suffered defeats to Stoke City for the first time in 26 years and Wolverhampton Wanderers for the first time in 27 years. Hodgson only furthered the fans’ harbored disappointment by sandwiching these historic losses between only more defeats. Even whilst deploying his characteristic defensive tactics in almost every game he managed, Liverpool’s statistics declined significantly as they picked up fewer and fewer points on the Premier League table. Despite overseeing a total of 31 games between July 1st, 2010 and January 8th, 2011, Hodgson led the team to only 13 wins, 6 of which earned the club points for the Premier League table. Liverpool fans far and wide agreed that Hodgson’s management was unacceptable and feared the creation of a new, lower standard for Liverpool.

Kenny Dalglish Signs For Liverpool

"King" Kenny Dalglish - A Legendary Return

On January 8th 2011, Roy Hodsgon left his position as manager of the club by mutual consent; newly reappointed caretaker manager Kenny Dalglish entered. With full support from new owners New England Sports Venures, and with decades of prestige behind his name, Dalglish quickly earned the title 'King Kenny' from supporters globally. With 13 years logged as a player on the senior squad from '77-90, 5 years as a player-manager from '85-'90 and another year with the club as manager, Dalglish was no stranger to anybody at the club or in the entire sport surrounding it. His world-renowned history with Liverpool made his the name to chant in the stands during the months leading up to Hodgson's departure. Kenny has been at the helm for only 9 matches, but has already led Liverpool to more wins than draws or losses in all competitions since his arrival. Reentering the club during the January transfer window allowed for Liverpool hero Dalglish to make some historic squad adjustments, which have improved Liverpool’s recently damaged winning mentality. These include departing with club icon Fernando Torres to rival club Chelsea for a hefty £50 million (86 million USD), picking up Luis Suarez of Dutch club Ajax and Andy Carroll of Premier League club Newcastle United. Currently, the club under Kenny has positioned itself in a respectable 6th place and boasts a 7-match unbeaten streak; two feats which were not even closely touched upon by former manager Roy Hodgson. With Dalglish’s commitment and experience on board, Liverpool fans eagerly anticipate more wins and championships for their beloved football club.
